First Day as a Telemarketer
Ok ok..I'm happier today than yesterday because I think I love this job! The place as you know is at Tanjong Pagar. It is located in one of those shophouses. I woke up at 8.10 today...left home at about 8.35 and walked to Bukit Gombak MRT Station. Though it was only 9am, the train was already packed with people. I didn't sit down cause obviously there were no seats available lah!
When I arrived, it was about 9.30..I was like the first trainee to reach there.
Them: WOW! You're very early
Me: Is it? Oh..I'm always early for such things
Them: Oh..That's good..
HAHAX
I was surprised to see the office is air conditioned cause when I went there last week, the place was like uncomfortable lah. So I began to like the environment.
After me, another trainee came. His name is Kiren. He is 19 and already finished his 'A' Levels. We talked and got to know each other. Minutes later, another trainee walked in. His name is Bing Rong. He's 18 and already finished his 'A' Levels. SO..they're both JC students lah...They had things in common to talk about. I didn't mind cause they're really friendly people. Seriously...even friendlier than the Starhub people lah! Sorry I had to say that but it's the truth..
Ok..After that, a lady walked in..She looked matured...Probably in her 50s but she don't really look her age! Her name's Nadia. Oh..my bosses are Sudeer and Ryan. They're both really nice people!!! I didn't call them by their names cause I just don't feel comfortable as they're adults. At bout 10+, another lady walked in..Her name's Mayna and she's from Standard Chartered Bank. She was there to teach us about what we're supposed to sell lah. Oh, you know that I'm doing telemarketing right? But, do you know exactly what we're supposed to sell? We also have this script lah...Here goes:
Good morning/afternoon..May I speak to ______? or the Director?
Hi..My name is Syawal calling on behalf of Standard Chartered Bank. Can I have a few minutes of your time, please?
Currently, we're looking into helping Small Business Enterprise like yourself to expand your business and are offering a very special funding called the Business Investment Loan from Standard Chartered Bank. You can apply any amount from $20K to $150K over a repayment period of 2 to 5 years. Not much documents is required and we can get approval quickly. If you're interested, I can make an appoinment for you to meet our consultant at your office.
Something like that lah...
After lunch time, we had to play 'pretend' with Ryan and Sudeer. We had to call them and they pretended to be our difficult customer. It was fun and all...We laughed a lot!!!
Then at about 2, Ryan gave us(Me, Kiren, Bing Rong and Nadia) our list of names of people to call. We were given like about 90 names. I started calling. There were some that were interested but didn't fit the criteria...Some, when I call them, the staff there said that that person is no longer working there...Oh..before I proceed, the names of people are actually the Directors and the Decision Makers(that was what we were told initially)...The most funniest one is this:
Him: Hello...just now this number call me ar..
Me: Er...may I have your name sir?
Him: (I can't remember his name)...
Me: Let me check...Oh yes...I'm here to introduce to you about this loan that Standard Chartered is offering for SMEs
Him: I already applied ar but I didn't get ar..
Me: Ermm..May I know what company is this?
Him: I have no company..I am a sweeper..
Me: *Thoughts* What?? Talk a lot...sweeper only ar...*real words* I'm sorry sir but I don't think you're eligible for this. Thank you...goodbye...
HAHAX...Directors indeed..I took about 3 hours to call all 90 names.. I didn't get to close any deal but there were some people that's interested so I labelled them as 'Potential' customers...the rest of them just asked me to call them back tomorrow...So I've already noted their names and will call them tomorrow...
At the end of the day, Kiren managed to get 3 customers..and will meet them about tomorrow...Nadia got 4 customers...Me and Bing Rong...NONE!! But you know what?? I'm really happy with this job..I can't complain that my feet hurts cause all I do is SIT ALL DAY!!! Ryan told us that we can bring anything to make ourselves comfortable...I still don't know what to bring...hehex
We finished work at 6..it was raining so heavily I couldn't walk to the MRT station. So I had to take 145 to Chinatown MRT and then take the train from there. I reached home about 7.30 and until now..it's still raining....but I love the rain...LOVE IT!!!
Today is probably better than yesterday..My colleagues are great...The workplace is great....The work is kinda simple but I need to remember the information lah...
Okie dokes...I'm so tired now...Gonna sleep soon...
